The band was formed in 1985 by lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist "Dizzy" Dean Davidson, bassist Billy Childs, former Cinderella guitarist Michael Kelly Smith, and former Cinderella drummer Tony Destra. The band's name was inspired by Davidson, who named it in honor of a Welsh ancestor.
Britny Fox released their self-titled debut album in 1988. The album was a commercial success, selling over 650,000 copies and spawning the hit singles "Long Way to Love", "Girlschool", and "Save the Weak". The band followed up their debut with the albums Boys in Heat (1989) and Bite Down Hard (1991), but neither album was as commercially successful as their debut.
Britny Fox broke up in 1992, but they have reformed several times over the years. Their most recent reformation was in 2015, but the band broke up again in 2016. Despite their breakups, Britny Fox remains a popular band among fans of glam metal.
